SPECIAL WILDFIRE EDUCATION EVENT
MONDAY AUGUST 11, 2008

The Deer Springs Fire Safe Council is proud to present two very informative classes by Anne Fege,  Ph.D., M.B.A  (Business and Ecology Consulting) that will help both professionals and homeowners prepare and plan for a wildfire event. The classes will be hosted by Welk Resorts at the Lawrence Welk Theater, 8860 Lawrence Welk Drive, Escondido.

These classes are free but seating is limited. Get your tickets early. See below

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM     Wildfire Education for Professionals

This class is intended for those who manage community fire programs and local natural areas, those who design landscapes or homes, work for home and property owners, or who make decisions that affect homeowners and communities.

The curriculum has been updated to reflect the 2007 wildfires and covers the physics of fire behavior, the ecology of the local fire regimes, and how these factors relate to structure ignition and property loss.

Learn the reasons behind local codes for ignition-resistant structures and managing the 100 foot defensible space. Learn the costs of excessive vegetation reduction.

Dr. Fegge will present examples of building design, exterior materials, landscaping practices and quick low-cost property maintenance and modifications to reduce property risks.

5:00 PM - 6:00PM  Exhibits by local distributors of fire safety products for
                                   professionals

6:00 PM - 9:00PM    Living with Wildfire (for the general community)
This will be a slightly modified version of the professional class aimed at the average property owner and will cover reducing property risks, habitat losses, and costs.
